Evaluation principles

The evaluation analyses the institution’s governance and policy in terms of research, exploitatin of research findings, training, student life and external relations. Particular attention will be paid to the institution’s quality policy. This evaluation is also an opportunity to determine the consistency of the institution’s strategic objectives.

What you need to know

• Current thoughts on the role and methods for organising the university system in Europe and France, particularly through the French law on the freedoms and responsibilities of universities, which stresses the need to develop the responsibility of institutions.

In this context, the institutional evaluation must allow for a decision to be reached about the institution’s ability to know itself, to set and follow its objectives under the main guidelines defined by the State, to detect any anomaly in the way it is run and to make improvements.

• The work of the department for the evaluation of institutions draws above all on the evaluations of the department for the evaluation of research units, the department for the evaluation of programmes and degrees and on the institution’s self-evaluation. The department endeavours to perform a summary analysis revealing an institution’s strengths and weaknesses
• The Agency pays particular attention to the policy implemented by institutions with regards to students and student life.
• The Agency conducts an evaluation taking account of the diversity of higher education and research institutions, of their environment and of their subsequent missions and tasks.
