In 2010, the AERES (French Evaluation Agency for Research and Higher Education) had its full membership renewed by the ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education) following external evaluation by ANECA (Agencia Nacional de Evaluación de la Calidad y Acreditación) on behalf of the association.

In order to continue this experience and their relationship, the AERES and ANECA exchanged information about the following subjects during a visit by the Spanish agency in January 2011:

  • the external evaluation of the AERES: in particular, the AERES praised the quality of the expert committee assigned by ANECA;
  • the processes implemented by the two agencies within the framework of their evaluation campaigns;
  • ANECA's direct responsibility for the evaluation of professors within Spanish universities and the methods employed;
  • the cooperation of the two agencies beyond their national borders, by bringing their review on doctoral training (composition/evaluation) to Mediterranean and/or Latin America countries initially.

This first discussion reflects the desire for close and lasting cooperation between the two agencies, especially from an international perspective, with a view to promoting the European experience linked to the Bologna Process.
